FAQ

Do these songs use AI?

No. All of the vocals are sung by a human and/or two dogs in a trench coat pretending to be a human. Most vocals have filtering on them to remove unwanted noise and tone, and some use a free autotune plugin in FL Studio called Graillon 3 to try and get them sounding closer to the original song. This autotuning was done in post so it has some hiccups. None of the instruments are AI either.

Do these songs sample the original songs?

No. All of the instruments were synthesized within FL Studio using the piano roll and drum loops, mostly using free FLEX and Sytrus instruments. The only samples are the mob noises. Some real instruments were recorded for track 17.

Are these songs age appropriate for children?

That would be up to the parent(s) or guardian(s). There are no swear words other than referring to the Nether as “Hell” in a couple of songs and one song that says Redstone “sucks” because it does. No naughty words beyond that or any innuendo or sexual themes. I guess there’s also track 7 which is about killing every mob in Minecraft and likens the narrator to a war crime. Other than all that I would call this a PG album.

Why did you choose these songs to parody?

Almost always because they are songs from an album that quite adept owns, enjoys, and loves to sing. Some songs also just happened to have a great theme for parodying. The only song on the album that I chose to parody without knowing much about was track 16, which came from a chat comment on a Northernlion livestream. We knew it would be too tempting for him to pass up, and we were right.

Who is quite adept? You use "we" and "I" interchangeably, it's confusing.

Yeah we know. I mean I know. We understand the confusion. If you must know, the person who wrote and arranged all the songs is supposedly identified with the name J. R. Dax, and the person who sang most of them goes by seanFLAme, but neither of those are real names. The entity known as quite adept uses the royal we on occasion but also the collective we even if only one person was involved on a project. By design, there is no singular persona behind quite adept.

What?

See the quite adept FAQ for more information.

Why are the sales of this album going to charity?

Because it would be weird to make money off of parodies of other people’s music. Because quite adept isn’t in it for the money; I don’t need money, these charities do. Because giving to charity is virtuous and raising money for charity in this way is literally the only good form of virtue signaling. Because we were inspired by the Far Lands or Bust journey of kurtjmac, which has raised money for charity through the medium of Minecraft for about 15 years now. Because it’s the right thing to do. Because being a good person is different from being a kind person, and championing charity makes me look like a kind person, which I’m absolutely not.

Why did you pick four different charities?

I couldn’t decide on just one. A couple of them benefit causes that I have a deep, personal connection with and the other two are really important causes as well. Plus the album is called Parodies 4 Charities, there’s a “4” right there in the name!

I have an issue with one of the charities, can you donate my purchase to one of the other ones instead?

First of all, it doesn’t work like that, but primarily, you can go fuck yourself if you have even the slightest aversion to any of these charities. And don’t try to hide it, we all know which one you’re talking about, you fucking bigot. For reasons I don’t need to get into, I’ve been unlucky enough to be around a lot of old people when they were near death. So I know from experience that bigots like you always die alone, consumed by doubt, and so terribly, terribly afraid. You have that to look forward to. Start preparing for it now.

Thank you for choosing some really awesome charitable causes!

That’s not a question, but thank you for supporting them with us and your fellow listeners.

How will my purchase make it to these charities?

That’s an important question. So your purchase is made through bandcamp, in your chosen currency and amount, and bandcamp decides how much of your purchase gets paid out to the artist based on a variety of factors that are not totally transparent (currency exchange, payment processor fees, taxes, other bureaucratic stuff I don’t understand). I don’t control the percentage of your purchase that bandcamp pays out to the artist. I am the artist. Whatever bandcamp decides to pay out to me from your purchase is what will be donated, in its entirety, to these four charities, equally. I guarantee that a minimum of 100% of what bandcamp pays out to me will be donated. It will be more than 100% because I will round up the donations to even dollar amounts with my own money for my own convenience. Also, I’m not sure if any of these charities have a minimum donation amount, so if a month has low sales I’m still going to donate a certain minimum anyway.

How will I know you actually donated?

I will post the album earnings and donation receipts each month on either my website or my bluesky as proof. The charities themselves might also have a widget that displays recent donations, if so you should see a donation from quite adept. Part of the reason we chose these specific charities is because they all accept PayPal, which is what bandcamp pays through, and we have a business PayPal account for quite adept that isn’t tied to our legal names. We will post proof of donation at the beginning of each month from now until January 1, 2028.

Why will you stop donating the proceeds from the album sales after January 1, 2028?

No one said we will stop donating the album sales after that date. We want to donate all sales forever, we just don’t want to have to diligently keep up with it every month for the rest of our lives. With this setup, we are obligated to make these donations as written in the album description on bandcamp until that date. After that date we cannot guarantee that your purchase will go to these specific charities, nor that it will be donated to them evenly, nor that it will be donated at all. We intend to still make donations from time to time after 2028, it just won’t be guaranteed or on a regular schedule like it is for the first year plus. It’s up to you to trust us on that.

Can I play these songs on my stream/video/reel/content?

No. I mean, you can, I’m not going to hunt you down, but we’d prefer it if you kept it to a minimum. And if you do, please link to or shout out the bandcamp page so people can buy the album. Also, some of these songs will likely trigger content ID claims. More than half of them that we uploaded to YouTube were claimed. So play them at your own risk.

I saw somebody playing your song on their content without permission, should I report them?

No, don’t police other people on our behalf. We have deputies all over the internet, but you aren’t one of them. We don’t want to bother with that stuff anyway. Just leave it be.

Can I make a music video for one of these songs?

Yes, actually, but ONLY if you us the YouTube Remix feature for remixing another person’s video or audio. That way the song is still linked to the quite adept upload. We look forward to seeing what you create.

Do you play Minecraft?

Yeah, usually in one month bursts every year or two since the full release, almost always vanilla, and about 50% single player and 50% SMP.

Can you make a Minecraft parody of this song I like?

No, but you can. I got other shit I want to do. Lots of projects in the hopper. Not a Minecraft Hopper, though, just a regular hopper.

Will you continue to make Minecraft parodies?

Probably not any time soon; quite adept will continue to make music for other projects though. The next album with vocals on it will be similar in tone to this one, but it won’t be parodies or Minecraft-related, and it won’t happen until at least next year. As far as instrumental music goes though, there’s the OST for Dungeon of Departure which will release alongside the game, hopefully soon. Another music project that quite adept has been working on for a while is the Jerma’s Big Adventure 2 OST, which will also release hopefully soon (about 43% of the songs on it will be from quite adept, 47% from savestatecorrupted, and 10% other contributors).

But I want more Minecraft parodies! Are you saying you're not a full-time Minecraft Parody YouTuber?

No, that sounds insane. But I do believe we are in the middle of what historians (me) are calling “The Minecraft Parody Renaissance (late 2024-????)” and it’s the perfect time to listen to or make your own parodies. Some really talented people already are. The most well-known has to be Twi Shorts. Then there’s friend of the channel, Earth Kenan, who made a few, high-quality Steely Dan parodies. I also quite liked a parody by Slurpo Seth of Drive by Incubus. And goodsongsohyeah made a sick Notorious B.I.G. parody. It’s a bit older, but ProMinecraftSings 5D made a great parody of As the World Caves In by Matt Maltese. Malachili made a great parody of that Benson Boone song. Quentin Lovejoy is one of the preeminent artists that you could say is at the forefront of this renaissance. Someone who goes by leigh k is a legend for making a Geese Minecraft Parody. But then again, skalitude made two. Lastly, let’s not forget that DrainyBoys made an entire Minecraft parody album of OK Computer.

I would like to collab with you on a project, how can I reach out?

I love to find talented artists, musicians, animators, and creators to collaborate with. But typically, I will reach out to you if I want to collab. So if you want to collab, make me aware of your talents in some way and then hope I reach out. While I am quite adept at many things, I can’t sing very well and I can’t play guitar, so those are the two main things I look for (along with animation, which I can do but it takes too much time). In particular, I am looking for a female or femme-sounding vocalist for two different “end credits” songs, one paid, one unpaid.

Why is track 12 missing its name?

Track 12 has a name, it’s on the YouTube upload. The reason it is called [TRACK 12] in the bandcamp upload is because I wanted to avoid using the word “Minecraft” entirely on the bandcamp page, for legal reasons. It is also the end of the first half of the album and has a long pause before playing a hidden track within the same song file, and this hidden track does not have a name, so let’s just call it [TRACK 12].

Why aren't all of these songs uploaded to YouTube?

Two reasons. One is because they almost always get content ID claimed and that is annoying to deal with even though all the claims eventually get dropped. Two is because I want some tracks to be album exclusive to encourage people to buy the album. I might upload some of them to YouTube later. I don’t know if I can do a full album upload as a single video because it will get like 15 content ID claims at once and I don’t want to risk my channel like that.

Are you going to put this album on Spotify?

No. Fuck Spotify. Paid music streaming is for morons. Buy music directly, it’s cheaper, better for the artists, and better for you in the long term because you can listen to your favorite songs forever. Also these are parodies and I don’t want to deal with any more content ID claims or other rights-related bullshit.

Why are you not doing more to promote and advertise this album?

I’m doing my best. I don’t know how to get the word out any more than I already have without spending money, being a nuisance, or getting banned for spamming self-promotion. I got Northernlion to play three of the songs on stream to ten thousand people, that’s about as good as I can do. I’m not on Twitter or Facebook or TikTok, so if you want to plug the album there for me, that would be great. Just delete your account later because those platforms are not worth your time and stress.

Can I give you some positive and/or negative feedback on your music?

I can’t stop you, but also I don’t really care what you have to say. I find positive feedback to be unnecessary and negative feedback to be more a reflection of you than of me. I already know everything there is to know about the music I create; I’m fully aware of its flaws and understand its strengths better than you do, so nothing you have to add will rouse any reaction from me. If you want to shit on or praise seanFLAme’s vocals, go ahead, he doesn’t use the internet beyond watching VODs, nor does he have any accounts anymore to even see or reply to comments about it. The other, talented vocalists on this project did exactly what I asked of them flawlessly; anything you have to say to them would be more critical of my instruction to them rather than their actual talent, so there’s no need to bother them either.

Wow, so you don't even care if people enjoy your creation?

No, no, you’re not listening. That’s the thing I do care about: that people are glad they found it, grateful they got to enjoy it and share it, or found some inspiration in it to make their own cool thing. That’s awesome, that’s what it’s all about. I just don’t care about feedback on the quality of my content, so you can save yourself some time and keep your opinions to yourself. I guess if there is like a typo or some technical issue, you can let me know about that. I’m not very technical. But yeah, I know my creations better than you do, so no need for feedback. Yes, I can be quite arrogant.

Why is this FAQ so long?

I want to cover as many potential questions and concerns as possible now so I have less work to do later. That’s just good time management. Feel free to direct people here if they ask a question and I don’t respond right away. I don’t always stay logged in to things so I miss a lot.
